Our Packaging

Here at Mariposa, we have a pretty simple recycling philosophy: it’s good. Understandably, it’s not always possible to use recycled or sustainable products, however, we’re committed to using the best form of packaging while being as environmentally friendly as possible. We want you to feel good about your coffee purchase by knowing we’re doing everything we can to keep our earth green!

For orders that are delivered locally*, we use glassine lined, kraft paper bags with tin ties. Upon removal of the tin ties, these bags are 100% biodegradable, even the lining! Glassine is a type of translucent paper that provides good protection against air and moisture – just the perfect thing to keep your coffee fresh! As a side note, you may experience some spotting from these bags if you order our darker coffees. Coffee roasted darker contains more oil on the surface of the bean. This is simply due to the absorption of the coffee oils onto the bag.

For bulk 5 lb. or shipped orders, we must use coffee bags that are packaged with the traditional foil lined bag with the one-way air valve. This is to guarantee your coffee stays fresh from the time we roast it to the time it gets to you. We would hate for your coffee to be ruined if it were ever in an accident on its way to you!

*If you’re a local order and prefer to have your coffee packaged in the foil lined bag with the one-way air valve, it’s no problem! Just be sure to change the packaging option on each item ordered before checking out. There is an additional $0.75 charge for every foil bag requested.
